After many mornings without any success, my pacience finaly paid off with a spectaular sighting of a bird landing up close with a freshly caught fish in tow.

Egret on the Hunt

I enjoyed watching this egret hunting fish in a shallow pool at Milnerton Lagoon. Fish get trapped in these pools during low tide, making it a particularly productive time for birds to hunt

A Morning with Eagles

African Fish Eagles are stunning birds of prey, their good looks and enchanting call make them a real icon of African wetlands. There is a resident pair living at Rietvlei Wetland Reserve in Cape Town. I've been watching their movements and recently found an ideal spot to photograph them.

Tree House Turf

Rest camps in the heart of Kruger National Park are the ideal location for bird photography! The smaller species, having become accustomed to the presence of people, are especially a treat to observe and document. Letaba is one of my personal favorites and is fantastic for just that. I was there recently and one such sighting that stood out among the owls, barbets and bushbabies was a family of Golden-tailed Woodpeckers, Campethera abingoni, nesting in the hollow of a small acacia tree. The residents include a pair of chirpy youngsters and of course the two ever-busy parents.
